Tell us a little bit about yourself  – Your work background, your interests…

My name is Katie and I am 28 years old! I live in Swindon and have worked for Wiltshire Council since January 2013. Prior to this I worked for a homeless charity in the Swindon area for 5 years.

I started working for Wiltshire in the contact and assessment team that is based in Devizes, Trowbridge and Salisbury. In January 2016 I parted from my beloved team and am now on the Step-up to social work programme! My first placement which lasts for 70 working days is on the Youth Offending Team and is almost coming to an end and then I will be starting my 100 day placement in the safeguarding team based in Chippenham.

I constantly feel all over the place! I live in Swindon, study in Bournemouth and work all around Wiltshire. This leaves little opportunity for a personal life but I am working on that! My main interests include; music (hip hop and country), cooking, golf, going to see stand-up comedy and spending time with friends. I am also partial to a good box set mainly Game of Thrones, Grey’s Anatomy and Chicago Fire. Most of all, I love to travel! I have a very long list of places to see. I am super keen to get more into fitness so I am currently looking into netball clubs to join and a good exercise class.

What makes you have a good day at work?

For me the most essential part of the day involves coffee. Secondary to coffee it is the amazing people that I work with. It is so much more fun coming into work with people that I adore. Over the last 3 years the amazing people that I have had the privilege of working with have been an amazing source of both support and amusement. I also love the long drive into work playing music obscenely loudly to get me going in the morning.

What’s the best thing about working at Wiltshire Council?

The people, both colleagues and service users. My experience in Wiltshire has been that the staff are approachable and kind. The service users have taught me a lot and inspired me to become a social worker. I have not got bored working for Wiltshire which is unusual for me. This is because of the people and the work opportunities that have been made available to me.
